Bowl by Hilary Duncan of Hilary Duncan Ceramics
Hilary trained at Gray’s School of Art and worked as artist in resident at Aberdeen University’s Fabric of the Land project in the Geoscience Department. At her studio near the River Dee she makes ceramics inspired by landscapes and narratives of Northern Scotland. Using coloured clays and slips, images are drawn and printed onto surfaces of jugs, bowls, platters and sculptural pieces. The bowl is hand built, stoneware, and decorated with coloured slip and sgraffito. A form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of contrasting colour, typically done in plaster or stucco walls, or in slip on ceramics before firing.
