The week began at the halfway mark at 400 miles, then the major challenge of up and over Cross Fell, which at 3000 feet is the highest point on the journey. Beautiful weather entering Northumberland and crossing Hadrian’s wall we slipped into Scotland by way of a high pass through the Cheviots along an old Roman road, Dere Street. We should make 500 miles tomorrow somewhere near Melrose so will celebrate by humming the Proclaimers anthem into town!
As the land of fine beer disappears behind us the door opens to Whisky Galore!
