Today we came to Jouarre by way of Meaux, Bossuet’s diocese. The cathedral is bright and beautiful. The Bishop’s palace nearby overlooks a lovely garden designed by Le Notre and is surrounded by Gallo-Roman city walls, on top of which there is the Bishop’s little pavilion, in which he wrote and prayed. There is also an interesting archaeological museum. Jouarre is a small town, but seems livelier than some we’ve visited.
