PILGRIMS’ PROGRESS – WEEK 1
The pilgrims set off at 8am on Monday 5th June from Val-des-Choux on a very hot and humid day, with everyone in cracking form and looking forward to the challenge ahead. After a mass held by the Father Abbot of Pluscarden, they were ceremoniously piped down the drive by Iain MacGillivray, who was also walking on week 1. They first headed south to take in the abbeys and monasteries in the Valliscaulian heartland, (including Val Saint Benoit and Val Croissant), before then heading north to start retracing the steps of the monks who left Burgundy in 1230 to found Pluscarden Abbey in the north of Scotland. The week ended at the Abbey de la Pierre-qui-Vire.
